Summary: Israel recently approved a plan to construct a protective fence along its southern border with Egypt as a means of keeping out Palestinian terrorists. The plan was initially pushed off because of its high expense; however a recent suicide bombing has brought the issue back under the spotlight.
Response: The decision made by Israel to effectively barricade its southern border is an extremely wise decision. While it may exacerbate anti-Israeli feelings in the region, it is important that Israel take a strong stand and protect its people. This is even more crucial given Egypt’s sympathy towards Gaza – thousands of Palestinians recently crossed the Egyptian border unchecked, and it is more than likely that some of them were terrorists.
