The US death toll in Iraq has just recently passed 4,000 deaths. At least 97 percent of that number came after George Bush declared an end to major conflict on May 1, 2003. Besides the two world wars Vietnam has been the most costly war in American history with 58,000 deaths from 1964 to 1973. That averaged 26 deaths a day. The average death toll for the Iraq war in 2 deaths a day. I believe that Aljazeera made a mistake in this article because I am positive that the Civil War is the most costly war for America in terms of lives lost.
