New Book on 1948 Arab-Israeli War

Benny Morris, one of the most prominent Israeli historians of our era, has written a new book about the 1948 war: A History of the First Arab-Israeli War, (New Haven: Yale University Press, 2008).  Morris, like Israel’s first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, the man who led Israel through that first war with the Arabs, is not very optimistic about the future of the conflict.  Ben-Gurion once said that were he leading the Arabs, he, too, would wage perpetual war against Israel (see David Margolick’s review, “Endless War,” New York Times Book Review, May 4, 2008.).
