Lebanon’s Hizbullah has opened a shrine in Nabatiye to its recently deceased commander Imad Mughniyah. Mughniyah, a high ranking member of Hizbullah, died on February 12 in a car bomb attack in Damascus that Hizbullah blamed on Israeli agents. Mughniyah was implicated in the 1985 hijacking of a TWA airliner which was diverted to Beirut (among other terrorist attacks) and had been on the FBI’s “most wanted” list.
The Arabic mural on page A8 shows Mughniyah gazing out toward a coffin draped in an Israeli flag and the slogan, “We shall expel them from existence, God willing.” The mural also bears the word dam (”blood”) and Mughniyah’s name with the title shaheed (”martyr”).
