Not too terribly long of a “media report,” but it was interesting and thus thought I would share.

•Title of Article/Editorial/Column (indicate which type): “Le Monde 2”: Jérusalem en plans serrés par Didier Ben Loulou (photographic documentation)
•Source of Article: Le Monde
•Article Summary
Time: Over the past 18 years
Place: Jerusalem
Key People: Didier Ben Loulou, a French photographer
Main Ideas: The theme that seems to remain consistent throughout the sampling of photos here is the idea of anonymity—in all photos but one, the people presented in the photographs are represented through shadows or other unidentifiable features, such as hands and backs. He also seems to capture the apparent downfall of the city, more than once depicting ruble.
However, there also seems to be hope. In the last photograph shown, which was pictured on the cover of the magazine, Le Monde 2, depicts a man sitting on a bench looking into the sunlight. In the background, we see three American flags. Again, we have the contrast of the apparent peace brought by modernization but also the loss of an old society.
•Your Response to Article: As a photographer, I really connected to this. Loulou found a way to allow the subjects of his photographs represent all the citizens in this great city. And while I don’t know if this generalization is good, it certainly is an interesting take.
