Iraq’s Constitution and Governmental Structure

Re. the questions in class today about the Iraqi constitution click here to go the page at the History of the Middle East Database on the CPA.   In the yellow box you will see links to the draft constitutions.  In the body of the text, use “Find,” insert “constitution,” and read the summaries.   Click in the box to go to the next page in the sequence (”Sovereign Iraq”) and do the same.

This material is stored at the History of the Middle East Database.

Also see the IME Guide to the war in Iraq.

On the more specific question of the role of Sharia law in Iraq’s constitution (or any other Muslim constitution), type “Noah Feldman” into the search box on the main page of the blog to find several articles dealing with this topic.  Feldman is a constitutional law expert whom the CPA retained to offer advice to the Iraqis on the drafts of their constitution.
